San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was reportedly considering holding out to try and force the team to give him a new deal and a pay raise. Davis skipped offseason programs, but showed up on Wednesday for the start of training camp.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, his decision to show up was in part because of the fines he would face for not showing up.

"After skipping the offseason program, losing a $200,00 workout bonus and subjecting himself to up to $70,000 in fines for skipping a mandatory minicamp, 49ers tight end Vernon Davis decided to stop the financial bleeding by showing up for training camp.Per a league source, his decision to show up for training camp was influenced by multiple factors, including but not limited to $30,000 per day in fines and, after five days, partial signing bonus forfeiture."

Florio goes on to cite a source who says Davis is not necessarily happy about showing up without a new deal. The 49ers have a hard stance about not negotiating with players who are holding out for a new deal and won’t rip up existing contracts for new deals.

The 49ers are also facing a similar stand off with right guard Alex Boone.
