Mills underwent surgery back in January on a fractured fifth metatarsal bone, and the recovery has gone smoothly since, allowing him to get right back into the thick of things in camp this week. And that’s good since he needs it.
While Mills was named the starting right tackle last season and manned the position throughout, he was not exactly the most outstanding performer on the front line by any means.
Throughout the entire season, Mills was charged with 62 QB hurries, something that no doubt did not make Jay Cutler happy while he was running for his life back there in the pocket.
If anything, this training camp time needs to be used so he can work on whatever issues were plaguing the 23-year-old last season that made him struggle so mightily.
We’ll see whether or not that’s the case as camp and the preseason progresses, but there is a chance that Mills could start the season at right tackle, but not a guarantee that he will finish it there if he doesn’t improve his play.
