Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was suspended for just two games by the NFL earlier today, stemming from an incident earlier this year when a video camera caught him moments after knocking out his fiancee and dragging her from a casino elevator unconscious.

Rice apologized after the incident, but his punishment was imminent. FOX Sports 1 NFL insider, Mike Garafolo shared on Twitter Roger Goodell’s letter to Rice after the suspension was announced:

Even though Goodell outlines the NFL’s policy against domestic violence, the punishment simply does not fit the crime in this case.

Players often get suspended for four games for taking adderall or smoking marijuana, but Rice is only given a two game suspension for knocking out his wife? That simply is preposterous.

Terrelle Pryor was suspended five games when the league found out he was given free tattoos, but again Rice was only given a two game suspension.

The NFL needs a serious overhaul in terms of suspensions and punishments if slurs and drug usage are more heavily frowned upon then domestic violence.

Along with the two-game suspension, Rice will lose more than $470,000 in game checks. There is still no word as to whether or not the NFL will add a fine on to the suspension for Rice.
