Jon Lester Trade Rumors: Red Sox to acquire Matt Kemp for Jon Lester?
By Josh Hill
The Boston Red Sox are fading in the AL East and that’s causing them to become sellers at the trade deadline this year which means that Jon Lester’s name is going to come up more and more in the next few days.

Similarly, the Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to find the missing piece they need to fully become World Series contenders and that has led them to possibly being interested in acquiring Jon Lester from the Red Sox. Like Boston is trying to get rid of Lester, the Dodgers want to dump Matt Kemp even worse as the situation between the two isn’t as cozy or friendly as the one between Lester and Boston.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Dodgers and Red Sox have talked about a Lester-for-Kemp trade rather recently.
"The Dodgers have spoken to the Red Sox about star pitcher Jon Lester, and while no one’s claiming any blockbuster is likely, there could be a potential match.“Boston may talk Lester, and the best fit is the Dodgers,” opined one rival GM."
The trade makes a lot of sense for both sides and Los Angeles could be a place that pries Lester away from the Red Sox with an extension, something the pitcher has said he’s not inclined to accept outside of Boston. In that same breath, the cash strapped Dodgers might want to just rent Lester for a year and then hand him back to Boston in the winter following what they hope is a World Series win.
