The Miami Dolphins had a rough 2013 season by any number of measurements.

Wins and losses were nothing to get excited about, not to mention the controversy in their locker room as they dealt with a bullying scandal involving offensive linemen Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin.

This year’s version of the Dolphins is presumably looking to put that season behind them and build a foundation for success in 2014. They will look to shed the negative stigma that surrounded last year’s team and focus on camaraderie and chemistry.

As somebody on the outside looking in, I can only assume the Dolphins will focus on creating an atmosphere where each and every player feels supported and happy to be a part of the Dolphins’ organization.

If that is what the Dolphins are truly going for as their 2014 training camp gets underway, I suppose there is no better evidence than this t-shirt that they have created and distributed with their ‘team mantra’.

While I would certainly never claim to be an expert in the culture of NFL locker rooms nor in the intricacies of t-shirt design, I would still submit the following suggestion: I probably would have chosen a different line for the small text than this one given the whole Martin situation: “If I see something – I will say something – I commit to call it as it is.”

Also, I cannot help but observe that this sentence is woefully awkward in how it is worded: “I live respect and truth telling.”

That analysis aside, the Dolphins will hope that this shirt represents a fresh start as they look ahead to 2014.
