Fantasy Baseball Stats: Daily All-Stars from August 1

After yesterday’s dominance, we had to expect that the hitters would push back a little bit and claim some of Friday’s top fantasy baseball stats. The pitchers weren’t bad on Friday, taking two spots, but the hitters did push back a little bit.
One guy that pushed back gave us one of the better statistical days of the season, only he’s not a guy we’d normally expect that from.

Tommy Medica — San Diego Padres

If someone like Mike Trout, Andrew McCutchen, or Yasiel Puig had a day like this, we’d all be quite impressed. Medica not only had a great day but as the runs scored and RBI totals show, the normally unimpressive Padres offense was going strong too.
With the trade of Chris Denorfia, Medica should get plenty of at-bats for the remainder of the season. I doubt there’s much fantasy value there and there certainly won’t be many more games like this. He didn’t help many fantasy players, but the numbers were downright incredible.

1. Ryan Vogelsong — San Francisco Giants

The best thing about Vogelsong’s performance is that he greatly contributed to a game that barely exceeded two hours. Much appreciated, Vogey!
Vogelsong was dominant all night on Friday. allowing only three runners and doubling two of them off quickly after. He’s had a bit of hard luck with run support recently, but the Giants batters held up their end of the bargain, too. Vogelsong has some potential value for the rest of the season, as the Giants have a lot of divisional games remaining, and the NL West isn’t exactly known for its thunderous bats.
2. Wei-Yin Chen — Baltimore Orioles

Roberto Hernandez and Justin Verlander both earned consideration, but the overall dominance of Vogelsong and the strikeouts of Chen got them the two spots today.
Chen is an under-owned fantasy player, especially if your league still counts wins. He’s on pace for 18 victories, has a solid but not spectacular ERA/WHIP, and is red hot right now. Actually, I smell a player profile coming in the next few days.
3. Carlos Beltran — New York Yankees

Unfortunately, Beltran hasn’t had enough of these games for the Yanks or his fantasy owners, but it’s nice to know he’s still got a few of them in him.
Beltran is riding an eight-game hitting streak and has two knocks in each of his last four. Not a bad buy low guy for the remainder of the season, as Beltran’s not likely to stay under .250 for the rest of the season.
