The MLB trade deadline has come and gone — at least the non-waiver wire deadline has — and there were a slew of names traded before the end of the month.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

But there were also more than a few notable names we were all watching and expecting to get traded but they never did, including San Diego Padres closer Joaquin Benoit. There were plenty of rumors involving Benoit but at the end of the day, names like Huston Street, Joakim Soria and Andrew Miller were involved in trades with Benoit remaining in San Diego — for the time being.

He may end up clearing waivers this month and then being dealt for much cheaper than the Padres could have demanded at the deadline, and CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman mentions that two teams that were very interested in Benoit before the deadline were the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers.

The Dodgers were rumored to be in on Andrew Miller, as were the Brewers, which means that we could see the two try to claim or trade for Benoit if he should be waived by the Padres. It would be a trade that made sense for both sides, but the Padres will need to want to trade Benoit first before anything else can happen after that.
