It’s been an incredibly rough day for running back David Wilson as it appears his NFL career is over due to a neck injury he can’t seem to recover from.

More from New York Giants

After hearing from the Giants that his career might be over, to releasing a letter that has touched all in football, Wilson’s career with the New York Giants has come to a close as the team has waived him. Someone can claim Wilson on waivers, but given the severity of his neck injury and the uncertainty surrounding his future, it’s unlikely anyone picks him up.

Per Pro Football Talk:

"In a move that clears the way for him to land on injured reserve, the Giants waived tailback David Wilson with an “injured” designation on Monday, according to the NFL’s official transactions."

It’s truly a tragic tale of the price for playing football, as Wilson isn’t a 10-year veteran of the game — he was still a young man growing into his role with the New York Giants. But football isn’t everything to everyone, and Wilson valuing his future and his health over a game is probably the smartest thing he can ever hope to do.
