It has been a busy offseason for the New York Knicks. First, the Knicks sent center Tyson Chandler and point guard Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks for point guard Jose Calderón, center Samuel Dalembert,  swingman Wayne Ellington, point guard Shane Larkin and two second round picks, the 34th and 51st-overall selections in last month’s draft. They used those picks to selected former Wichita State Shockers’ swingman Cleanthony Early and Greek swingman Thanasis Antetokounmpo, the brother of Milwaukee Bucks’ swingman Giannis Antetokounmpo. Then, they accomplished their top goal and re-signed star forward Carmelo Anthony to a five-year deal.

They also wanted to trade big men Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani to create room to sign other free agents but now that they don’t have the chance to do that, Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders believes they should just let their contracts expire after the 2014-2015 season.

"That seems about right Bill. It’s about $10 million per first round pick, give or take. Jeremy Lin had a first-rounder attached to him at $8.3 million cap number, but $15 mm in actual salary. GSW got a first-rounder (late) for taking on an extra year of $10 million of Richard Jefferson over Stephen Jackson. That probably wasn’t great value considering it was the #30 pick and they then had to give up their own pick which turned out to be #23 in a good draft to offload him in the Iguodala trade. That said, there’s little reason for the Knicks to trade Amare now because his contract expires at the end of the year and there aren’t any more free agents out there really. So why pay a King’s random to offload Amare?"

Stoudemire missed only 17 games last season, but his minutes were severely reduced – he played 22.6 minutes  per game. He had one of the worst seasons of his career, putting up just 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7% from the field and 73.9% from the free throw line. Over his career, he has averaged 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 76.2% from the charity stripe.
