Rex Ryan says Michael Vick ‘looked great’ in Jets debut
By Mike Dyce
New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick is currently behind second-year player Geno Smith on the depth chart, but head coach Rex Ryan said “looked great” in the two series he played. In particular, Vick’s famous speed and mobility was on display with two scrambles for 19 yards, one of which converted a third down.

“That’s the thing, you can have ’em all covered up, but you better account for the quarterback,” Ryansaid after the game via the New York Daily News. “Obviously with Mike, it puts a huge, huge stress on the defense.”
Still he is behind Smith on that depth chart. Who the Jets want to be their quarterback for the future and Vick to serve as a mentor. Vick’s passing numbers were more pedestrian, completing three passes in six attempts for 17 yards.
One of his two series was not great, with a sack, batted pass and going three and out.
“Great to get a good reception from the crowd,” Vick said. “It doesn’t alleviate the butterflies, but even still at my age you still have the anxiety, which is a good thing. It helps you play better. It brings out the best in me.”
