Although the preseason kicked off on Sunday when the New York Giants took down the Buffalo Bills 17-13 in the Hall-of-Fame game, the rest of the league gets things going this week, starting with six games on Thursday night. In what was considered by most to be the game of the day, the Denver Broncos played host to the Seattle Seahawks in a rematch of Super Bowl XLVIII, which was won by the Seahawks 43-8. Things were a little closer this time as the Denver Broncos came away with a 21-16 victory.

More from Denver Broncos

The Broncos were the first to find the end zone when Ronnie Hillman capped off a 14-play, 61-yard drive that took 9:09 off of the clock with a one yard touchdown run. Russell Wilson answered by leading the Seahawks on a 14-play, 90-yard drive that took 9:18 on the clock. That drive was also finished off with a one-yard run, this time by Christine Michael. Peyton Manning threw a few more passes than a quarterbacks of his stature normally would this early in the preseason, completing 10-of-13 passes for 78 yards while Wilson attempted just six passes, completing four for 37 yards. Both players exited the game after those respective drives and were replaced by Tavaris Jackson and Brock Osweiler. Terrelle Pryor wound up seeing the bulk of the action for the Seahawks, going nine-of-16 with 137 yards and an interception.

Just before the half came to an end, Steven Hauschka made the first of three field goals to give the Seahawks a 10-7 lead. After the Broncos scored on a three-yard run by Kapri Bibbs, Hauschka answered with two more field goals, giving the Seahawks a 16-14 advantage. In the fourth quarter, Osweiler found receiver Jordan Norwood for a 34-yard touchdown to take a 21-16 lead. Osweiler finished six-of-12 for 85 yards with a touchdown and an interception. An interception of a Pryor pass by linebacker Steven Johnson with 2:49 to go sealed the deal for the Broncos.

This game was also delayed by lightning late in the first quarter.

The Broncos won’t play again until a week from Sunday when they travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. The Seahawks will host the San Diego Chargers a week from Friday.
