The Cleveland Cavaliers are close to acquiring Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves, but it’s not a done deal yet. But when it’s a finished trade, it will end what has turned out to be not weeks worth of work but month worth of work as the Cavaliers have been working on a trade for a while with the Wolves.

It’s been known for a while that the Cavaliers have been after Love, especially with LeBron James back in town, but the two sides have been talking directly for longer than we’ve thought.

According to Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein of ESPN, the Cavaliers have been talking with Kevin Love in an introductory way since July.

"The Cavs were granted permission last month by Minnesota to speak to Love and his representatives in an introductory fashion, sources say, while James and Love have also been in direct contact in recent weeks about their long-term intentions of playing together."
