The Indiana Pacers won’t have Paul George back this season, and that is causing some panic around the NBA about what the Pacers should do without their superstar.

More from Indiana Pacers

One popular theory is that the Pacers should trade Roy Hibbert, blow up the roster and rebuild while George is out indefinitely.

According to NBA scribe Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders, one reason we may not see a Roy Hibbert trade is because the Pacers may end up tanking this season to add a young player to play alongside Paul George in the long run.

"I wouldn’t say its lost yet… but I don’t expect it to be a good season. I think you have to have some vision in this situation. There is a chance to do what San Antonio did when David Robinson got hurt… pick up a lottery pick and bring back Paul George and the bulk of the core and make a run in 2015. I don’t think you sell everything until it’s clear you have nothing."

There’s no guarantee that the Pacers will tank this upcoming season, but they could coast through the year and then pick up the pieces in the offseason of 2015 when better free agents are available and the new draft class could provide a spark. Indiana needs a point guard, and grabbing someone like one of the Harrison twins in the lottery could be something that eases the pain of how bad this upcoming season could and may be.
