The Los Angeles Lakers are looking back at their campaign last year and begging for amnesia, as it was an abysmal season that everyone in Los Angeles wants to forget.

But while last season was brutal, the future is indeed bright in L.A., even if folks don’t want to actively admit it due to Lakers bias that still exists even though the team is laughably bad.

According to Alex Kennedy from Basketball Insiders, the Lakers are poised to be an exciting team this season but making the postseason in the Western Conference might be a bit ambitious for the team that has been assembled over the summer.

"The Lakers will be entertaining, but I can’t see them making the playoffs in the West. Kobe Bryant is a question mark since we don’t know how effective he’ll be. I hope he’s the dominant scoring machine that we all know, but who knows how the injuries will affect him?"

Kennedy also mentions that while Jeremy Lin might surprise a lot of people now that he’s in the right environment, the West is just too good for the Lakers — as they are — to make the playoffs.

"The West is just too good though, so I think L.A. finishes outside of the playoff picture. I just can’t see them being better than the Spurs, Clippers, Thunder, Blazers, Rockets, Warriors, Mavericks, Grizzlies, Suns, etc."

The bottom line is that the Lakers will be an improved team and won’t be as bad as they were in 2013-14, but they’re not a playoff team yet and they still have growing to do in this rebuilding era they’ve found themselves in.
