When the NFL announced that Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice would receive a two-game suspension after a domestic violence incident involving his then fiancee, the length of the suspension was blasted by fans of the league.

The video of Rice dragging his unconscious fiancee out of an elevator was shocking, and the NFL’s response was underwhelming.
However, the NFL is apparently working towards stricter punishment for domestic violence incidents moving forward.
“We need to have stricter penalties,” a source told Mark Maske of the Washington Post. “I think you will see that. I believe the commissioner and others would like to see stricter penalties. We need to be more vigilant.”
With the new guidelines in place, a first offense could lead to a suspension as much as six games, with a second violation leading to a yearlong ban.
Whether or not any plan to raise the standard of the league’s policy actually happens remains to be seen. Hopefully, that change will come.
