Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has some new competition. The fifth quarterback on the depth chart — the emergency quarterback — safety Kam Chancellor will be ready if called upon.

“I am the emergency quarterback here,” Chancellor said to ESPN.com. “But right now, I’m the fifth-string quarterback. I’m working my way up the depth chart day by day.”
Spoken like a true youngster, eager for reps. Of course, Chancellor isn’t a youngster, he’s a veteran. And he isn’t a quarterback. Hopefully, for the team’s sake, he never will be.
Chancellor jokes have some truth to them. When the Seahawks begin cutting quarterbacks, he will move up to depth chart by default. Once the cuts become final, the Seahawks could have two quarterbacks on the roster for game day. It would be a terrible situation if both of them went down.
Still, he’d be ready.
“If it came down to it, yeah, I’m the guy,” he said. “I have about five or six plays down right now. I’m still working on the playbook.”
ESPN reporter Terry Blount walks us through what Chancellor looked like as a high school quarterback:
"“Chancellor played quarterback at Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, passing for more than 2,000 yards and rushing for 500 yards his senior season. In one of the team’s 2005 playoff games, Chancellor passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 89 yards.”"
Let’s hope it never comes to that.
