Most athletes wait until they retire to find a television gig as a sportscaster, analyst, or commentator for any number of the media powerhouses such as ESPN, Fox, or NBC.

More from Chicago Bears

Then again, most athletes are not like Chicago Bears All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

According to Pro Football Talk, Marshall will be joining the popular Showtime football program ‘Inside the NFL’ this season as an analyst. Ed Reed, who is currently a free agent but will likely retire, has also recently joined the show as well.

So how can Marshall go through a treacherous regular season in the NFL and be an analyst for ‘Inside the NFL’ at the same time? Well, considering that the show tapes on Tuesdays, Marshall will likely have the day off as most NFL teams do. That will leave him time to tape the show while playing in the NFL this season.

It will be interesting to have Marshall’s thoughts and analysis, as he is a current active player in the NFL getting reps alongside the athletes he is discussing with his new colleagues Boomer Esiason, Greg Gumbel, and Phil Simms. It will also be interesting to hear first hand accounts of the Chicago Bears’ most recent games from Marshall himself.

As the season progresses we will have to see how Marshall handles being an analyst while he is playing in the NFL. If the Bears are in the midst of a playoff chase late in the season, will Marshall really have the time to spend talking football on the show? Only time will tell, but this is certainly an interesting experiment from ‘Inside the NFL’.
