The Dallas Cowboys acquired former first-round pick Brandon Weeden this offseason in the hopes that they could develop him into a viable backup to starting quarterback Tony Romo. Well so far this preseason, Weeden has showed that he could be more than capable of pulling off that duty, and he was at it again on Saturday night in the team’s preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Taking over for Romo in the second half of the game, Weeden hit wide receiver LaRon Byrd with this 27-yard touchdown pass with time winding down in the third quarter to give the Cowboys a two-point lead over the Dolphins.

Watch the play from Weeden and Byrd in the GIF below.

After faltering as the projected quarterback of the future of the Cleveland Browns, he was cut by the team that selected him in 2012 in the first round, and the Cowboys were quickly there to scoop him up, believing that they could mold him into something good enough to provide great relief for Romo.

Again, while just the preseason, Weeden has done nothing so far to show the Cowboys that they were wrong in making the decision to scoop him up.
