Last season, the Florida State Seminoles ran through the ACC, winning every regular season game by at least two touchdowns before blowing out the rival Florida Gators and defeating the Duke Blue Devils in the ACC Championship Game.

Then, they rallied from an 18-point deficit to defeat the Auburn Tigers in the final seconds to win the BCS National Championship with quarterback Jameis Winston winning the Heisman Trophy along the way.

Although the Seminoles lost a starting defensive back, Tyler Hunter, for most of the season to a neck injury and had a few other minor problems along the way injury-wise, their health was a huge reason for their success. Now, before the season has begun, they’ve already lost one player for the 2014 season.

According to Patrick Nohe of FanSided’s fantastic Florida State website, Chop Chat, Purifoy is out for the season with an ankle injury.

Purifoy wasn’t going to be counted on to make a real impact but the 4-Star recruit Pensacola, Florida would have likely seen time on special teams.

Stay tuned to FanSided as we get you ready for the start of the 2014 football season over the next few weeks. College Football will kickoff this Thursday night, headlined by games between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies and the Boise State Broncos and Ole Miss Rebels while the pros will start their regular season a week later when the world champion Seattle Seahawks host the Green Bay Packers.
