According to a report, the NFL has cleared former Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito for a return to the league.

ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reported Monday, citing a source, that the NFL has cleared Incognito for “full activity and regular-season game participation.”

Incognito, a free agent, had been on paid suspension by the Miami Dolphins to end the 2013 season after he was involved in the hazing of a pair of Dolphins offensive linemen, including Jonathan Martin, who has since been traded to the San Francisco 49ers after he left Miami seven games into the season.

Incognito missed the final eight games after he was suspended.

According to Schefter, the league wanted to review the investigation into Incognito and the activities in Miami before allowing him to sign with a team.

Incognito was reportedly in Tampa Bay to visit with the Buccaneers on Monday. There are reportedly three to five teams interested in adding the veteran guard and Schefter’s report indicated he is likely to sign somewhere by the end of the week.

Incognito has been no stranger to controversy in his career. He was suspended multiple times while at the University of Nebraska and eventually transferred to Oregon, but never played there after failing to meet the conditions of the transfer, including an anger-management course.

He was a third-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2005 and has also played for the Buffalo Bills before landing in Miami in 2010. He was a Pro Bowl selection as a Dolphin in 2012.
