Which 5 teams should look at claiming Michael Sam?
By Evan Massey
5. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are the team that most analysts and fans are talking about when it comes to a team placing a waiver claim on Sam. They could use some pass rushing help, as they were dead last in total defense last season. Sam might be able to play his way onto the field immediately in Dallas, and he could be a very big piece in their long-term defensive picture.
Dallas has already lost second-round pick DeMarcus Lawrence to a foot injury and George Selvie to a shoulder injury, which could open up a spot for Sam. The Cowboys are very similar to the Patriots as far as not worrying about media coverage, and owner Jerry Jones would more than likely enjoy the boost in attention. If Sam is going to get to play in his rookie year, the Cowboy seem like the best fit for him at this point in time.
Sam would immediately be put into a situation where he could at least seriously compete for playing time, which would be a very interesting situation to keep an eye on. The Cowboys don’t have the veteran players who could take him and mentor him, but they do have a good coaching staff that could help him along. Dallas seems like a very good fit for Sam, and they are always in need of extra defensive help.
