According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sacramento Kings have traded shooting guard Jason Terry to the Houston Rockets.

By acquiring Jason Terry, this could be Houston’s way of replacing Jeremy Lin who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason. Terry’s play has mellowed out since winning a championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, but if he can post similar to numbers than those during his one-year with the Boston Celtics (Terry averaged 10.2 points on 43-37-87 shooting splits), Terry could improve this Rockets backcourt, at least in comparison to the talent prior to the trade.

Most importantly, Terry is owed $5.8 million this season. With Daryl Morey always looking ahead, Terry’s contract could either turn into a trade piece at the February deadline as they’re still in search for a ‘third star’ to place alongside Dwight Howard and James Harden. A name that has popped up on the radar lately has been Boston Celtics star Rajon Rondo who has reportedly demanded a trade from the franchise. Many are pinning him as a player who is high on Morey’s list.

For the Sacramento Kings, they add contracts that could give them flexibility in the future. An expiring contract, Alonzo Gee could be key in landing the defensive-minded power forward the franchise has been searching for all summer (a.k.a. Josh Smith).

Last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Gee averaged 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
