The Toronto Blue Jays gave outfielder Melky Cabrera a shot, and a nice contract to boot, when he was in the midst of controversy thanks to a PED suspension and a fairly hilarious attempt to cover it up with a fake website two years ago.

More from MLB Trade Rumors

They signed Cabrera to a two-year, $16 million deal. That cost-effective contract has proven to mutually beneficial, as the Blue Jays have gotten a couple seasons of quality play in the outfield while Cabrera has gotten the chance to distance himself from his suspension and re-establish his value as a big league player.

The deal between the two sides will have run its course soon, and it sounds like another contract is unlikely. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes the following:

"Cabrera is going to make a lot of money this offseason, but it may not come from the Blue Jays. Among the league leaders in hitting and an excellent defensive outfielder, Cabrera is likely to land a four- or five-year deal. Rogers, which has more money than Canada, just won’t extend itself for its baseball team. Look for a team such as the Orioles to have interest."

In addition to the Orioles, one imagines that a couple other teams in the division, the big bad Red Sox and Yankees, might be interested in adding Cabrera to bolster their outfield after getting a good look at him the last couple seasons.

Cabrera is batting .305/.356/.460 with 15 home runs and 71 RBI this season.
