When you are the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft, there is always a lot of hype surrounding. When you’re immediately as good as New Orleans’ Pelicans’ power forward Anthony Davis is, that hype grows rapidly. Davis has had a fantastic first two NBA seasons and has looked like the best player on Team USA during the FIBA World Cup and the exhibitions leader to it thus far.

Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders believes Davis is well on the way to becoming one of the league’s elite players.

"He’s able to impact the game in so many ways beyond simply scoring the ball, and he’s only going to get better. I don’t think he’ll be quite the MVP candidate this year, but could see him improving and playing his way into that discussion by 2016.I am willing to wait and see before crowning him just yet, but I will say we could be asking if he isn’t in contention for being considered the league’s best and most complete big man if he continues to improve at this rate over the next 12-15 months. First step, continue to improve and get your Pelicans into the playoff race in what should be a great WC field once again."

Davis averaged 20.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 51.9% from the field, 22.2% from three and 79.1% from the free throw line last season. He’s gone for 17.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 51.8% from the floor, 13.3% from three and 77.7% from the free throw line in his two-year career.
