Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston could be in for more trouble regarding an alleged sexual assault that was brought to light 21 months ago. No criminal charges were filled, even after the state took a look at the original case. However, this incident continues to be investigated — this time by Florida State University under Title IX rules.

On Thursday the attorney for Jameis Winston released a statement acknowledging there has been an investigation by the school and that his client was cooperative with the process.

The accuser’s attorney, John Clune, then issued his own statement indicating that he expected code of conduct charges to be forthcoming, per USA Today:

"“They assured us that the Title IX process was going to move forward,” said John Clune, a Title IX attorney representing the woman. “The interview went pretty well. I think it was a positive experience, and everyone felt like the university was taking it very seriously. We expect that there will be code of conduct charges that will be brought,” he said. “There’s no basis not to bring those charges now.”"

Clune also went on to indicate that he believes an internal power struggle is to blame for a lack of a speedy process and a lack of current charges against Winston at Florida State.

“We’re dealing with one of the most powerful athletic departments in the country with the No. 1 football team in the nation and I think we’ll know very shortly how much control that athletic department has.”

What isn’t known is the timetable the university has, if charges are brought against Winston during the season he could face the realistic possibility of being suspended from the football team. He could also face expulsion from the university through the internal hearing process on the code of conduct charges if they do happen.
