Steven Sotloff may have lost his life to barbaric terrorism but he has left behind a life full of memories for all of those who knew him. This Sunday the Miami Dolphins will hold a moment of silence for the slain reporter who happens to also have been a Miami Dolphins fan.

More from Miami Dolphins

Sotloff’s passion was the Miami Dolphins and on his assignments, he often found himself using his media knowledge and connections to get Miami Dolphins news or to find a way to watch the game. As is often the case for American foreign correspondents and our own military, football can often bridge a lonely gap between work and home.

According to a report in the Miami Herald, the Miami native will indeed be honored prior to the start of the Miami Dolphins 2014 season kick-0ff against the New England Patriots this Sunday.

"The Dolphins are aware of this heinous act and Sotloff’s passion for the team. So they are going to have a moment of silence before Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots to pay respects in rememberance of Sotloff, according to team president and CEO Tom Garfinkel."

Sotloff had a love for both American football and Rugby according to a former roommate.

"“When we moved in together, he would never shut the heck up about rugby. Rugby or the Miami Dolphins,” Emerson Lotzia Jr., Sotloff’s former roommate at the University of Central Florida told the Central Florida Future recently."

The loss of Sotloff continues the concern over foreign policy and the dangers that all journalists and foreigners face in the Middle East. Sadly we tend to think of them as someone distant and unknown but in reality they are rarely any different than the rest of us. The Miami Dolphins are going to remind us that he was.
