The Oakland Raiders offense proved not ready to take on the New York Jets defense Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Oakland was limited to 158 total offensive yards compared to New York’s 402 yards leading to a 19-14 New York Jets victory.

More from Las Vegas Raiders

After Oakland got up to a 7-3 lead going into the second quarter after a passing touchdown from Carr to receiver Rod Streater, The Jets regained the lead going into halftime 10-7. The next score wasn’t made until late in the third quarter when Nick Folk nailed a 42-yard field goal to give the Jets a 13-7 lead. The lead was capitalized after a 71-yard Chris Ivory rushing touchdown followed by a failed two-point conversion to take a 19-7 lead. Oakland finally made a push late in the fourth quarter after Carr found receiver James Jones on a 30-yard touchdown toss with 1:21 left in the game, but it was too late after Oakland wasn’t able to convert on the onside kick attempt.

The Jets running game proved impressive after they added running back Chris Johnson in the offseason who split carries with Chris Ivory. Ivory led the way for the Jets with 102 rushing yards and a touchdown as the Jets rolled the Raiders defense. Johnson finished with 68 rushing yards and had a receiving touchdown.

The Jets offense was also led by second year quarterback Geno Smith who finished with 221 yards passing and one touchdown. Smith also threw and interception to Charles Woodson, but that didn’t harm the Jets who scored 16 straight unanswered points after the Raiders had a 7-3 lead going into the second quarter.

Eric Decker, who the Jets picked up this offseason from the Denver Broncos, was Smith’s prime target. He finished with five catches and 74 yards. Chris Johnson caught the only passing touchdown from Smith after a five-yard shovel pass near the goal-line.

The Oakland Raiders decided that rookie Derek Carr out of Fresno State would be their quarterback and he got the start against the Jets. Carr was limited by a skilled Jets defense and a weak receiving core but it wasn’t just the passing game that wasn’t gaining a lot of yards. The rushing duo of Darren McFadden and newly acquired Maurice Jones-Drew only gained 26 total yards between the two of them and had no touchdowns.

Oakland (0-1) will look to bounce back next week against the Houston Texans at home while the Jets (1-0) will look to keep it going next week at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.
