Jaguars Gus Bradley: Chad Henne ‘executed fairly well’

Chad Henne demonstrated solid quarterback play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first half. He allowed his team to jump out to a 17-0 lead. Of course, in the second half, the Eagles scored 34 unanswered points and the Jags lost the game. It’s odd, he’s a seven-year veteran, but he’s slow to put the blame on himself. He was relatively mistake free — his only turnover was a fumble.

“We didn’t really establish the run game like we wanted to again, but at the same time again, it comes down to making the tough catch, making the tough throw, and they were playing some man coverage and bringing some pressure,” Henne said, via ESPN.com. “But overall we’re going [to] the right places. We just need to make more plays.”

He’s the quarterback. Most would expect him to take all the blame for the poor play in the second half. Yet he doesn’t. He cites the run offense, then that receivers, then, finally, his throwing. Perhaps I’m making mountains out of molehills, but that’s not the natural order of things.

Coach Gus Bradley broke down Henne’s game. It wasn’t a resounding affirmation. But it wasn’t negative either.

“There were some balls that we maybe could have done better for him with the receivers, but then there’s some decisions he could have made,” Bradley said of Henne. “Without going and looking at the tape, I thought he executed fairly well and did a nice job. We wanted him to take some shots and get some explosive plays and he did that. I felt like he was efficient on that end.”
