After the situation involving the Los Angeles Clippers and former owner Donald Sterling’s racist comments, everyone in the NBA is reevaluating where they stand. Atlanta Hawks’ owner Bruce Levenson made racist comments about the people of Atlanta in an e-mail has since announced he is selling his share of the team.

More from Atlanta Hawks

In a scouting report Hawks’ general manager Danny Ferry had, it said currently Miami Heat forward Luol Deng, who the Hawks were courting in free agency, “is still a young guy overall. He is a good guy overall. But he is not perfect. He’s got some African in him. And I don’t say that in a bad way.”  Both Deng and Ferry have since released statements and you can check them out here.  That has led to speculation the Hawks could relieve Ferry of his duties.

Jeff Schultz of The Atlanta Journal Constitution believes Ferry has to go.

"Ferry needs to go. He’s damaged goods. He has done a more than admiral job in his two years as general manager, ridding the franchise of Joe Johnson and other miss-fit pieces, acquiring smart and disciplined players and hiring a coach, Mike Budenholzer, who has helped point guard Jeff Teague take his game to the next level. The Hawks aren’t great yet but because of Ferry they’re not a punchline (on the court) either. But this stain isn’t going away. According to Gearon, Ferry was discussing a background report’s positives and negatives about impending free agent Luol Deng on a conference call when the general manager said, “He has a little African in him. Not in a bad way, but he’s like a guy who would have a nice store out front but sell you counterfeit stuff out of the back.” Ferry completed the slur by describing the player as “a two-faced liar and cheat.”"

Ferry has done a solid job of getting the Hawks out of salary cap hell, but this obviously goes a lot further than that and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Ferry fired soon.
