Fantasy football: must adds from the waiver wire for week 2

facebooktwitterreddit

Week one has finally drawn to a close, and with that always comes the hot waiver adds of the week.  This is part one of a series in which I will help you manage the waiver wire to pick up one of the week’s breakout adds.  The waiver wire is one of the most important aspects of fantasy football and can make or break a team.  I will be listing here the must add players of the week along with people to keep your eyes on.

Week One Waiver Wire Adds:

  1. Let’s start with possibly the most important game breaking add for this week with none other than the infamous Josh Gordon.  The NFLPA will be taking a vote this Tuesday on a new drug policy that could alter the landscape of the fantasy world, along with allowing last year’s number one receiver to play. That is none other than Josh Gordon.  Target Gordon right now this second! He could be the story/pick up of the year, and could take your team to the top.
  2. Now, the second most important add of the week will help your backfield and can provide very serviceable flex numbers for your team.  With recent news coming out of almost every major news outlet that Ray Rice has been fired due to recent video of his elevator altercation being released, Justin Forsett is the man to add.  Forsett had a decent line this past weekend, finishing with 70 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown.  Forsett has familiarity with new Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak’s offense.  Bernard Pierce has also managed to prove absolutely nothing with his many chances at taking the starting job this year or last year.  If you’re in need of a running back or own one of the many injured backs like Andre Ellington, Toby Gerhart, or Eddie Lacy, Forsett is the man to grab for flex numbers or for injury replacements.
  3. If you kept up with my preseason articles, you saw the name Allen Hurns in most of the Jags preseason wrap ups.  Here he is in week one, and is already one of the most talked about waiver wire adds.  Allen Hurns was targeted nine times and caught four of those targets for 110 yards and two scores.  Don’t let his explosive stat line draw you in too much, Hurns very likely had his best fantasy game performance this past weekend.  Hurns won’t be putting up WR1 numbers like that every week, but with all the Jaguar injuries he will see his fair share of targets and will have WR4 numbers.  He will be a guy to use in favorable matchups.
  4. Terrence West, if you saw my preseason stuff on West you know that I liked him quite a bit due to him backing up the Danny Amendola of running backs.  If you did keep up with my stuff you saw that I pegged West to be a major factor once Ben Tate went down due to injury.  Well, week one just finished and that time is now.  Ben Tate is already down due to injury and West had a good game shouldering most of the work this weekend.  West ran for 100 yards on 16 carries and will be a steady compliment to Isaiah Crowell.
  5. Malcolm Floyd is one I did not talk about much due to him not doing much in the preseason. He just caught a touchdown pass in the redzone at the time of me writing this and has potential this year.  He has years and years of experience with Phillip Rivers, and will be a deep threat for the Chargers this season.  He is usually good for  800 yard and five touchdowns, but he has a great ceiling this year.  With Keenan Allen drawing most of the attention, and Phillip Rivers coming off a big season, Floyd is a nice pick up for some of you deep league guys.
