Monroe is fresh off of signing a qualifying offer he never really wanted to sign in the first place and will now be sitting out the first two games of this upcoming season not getting paid at all.
According to Chris Mannix from SI.com, Monroe has spoken out about his suspension and is placing the blame for the incident solely on himself.

Monroe will be in a season this year where he’s playing for the max contract he thought he might get this past summer. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer, meaning losing two games right out of the gate will slow his momentum towards putting together a season in which he proves he’s a max player and not just a guy who thinks he is.
