Week 1 of the NFL season is already behind us. There were plenty of surprises, though many of the things we thought we knew heading into the season were on display as well.

Since this is the first edition of NFL Zone Reads, it might be wise for a brief explanation of what you will find in this space each week. This column is designed to provide smart analysis of the NFL from both a salary cap perspective and from within the film room. There will be a number of features that will be auditioned throughout the season as well.
