Following the release of a video that showed Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice hitting and knocking his then-fiancee unconscious, the team released him. That was followed roughly 20 minutes later by the NFL suspending him indefinitely.
Fans took to burning his jersey and some tried unsuccessfully to return the jerseys to various sporting goods stores. The Ravens themselves have announced that they will offer an exchange for Ray Rice jerseys at stadium stores, meaning you could trade in your Rice jersey for a new one.

It isn’t the first time we’ve seen an NFL team do this. The New England Patriots allowed fans to exchange their Aaron Hernandez jerseys as he was arrested and charged for his role in a homicide.
If you purchased a #81 Hernandez jersey from the Patriots pro shop, you can exchange it for a free jersey from July 6-7, team announces.

All-in-all it is a goodwill move by the franchise with their fan base, and also a much needed PR boost after the fiasco the Ravens went through in first supporting Ray Rice and then trotting his fiancee out to the media to accept her role in the incident.
