People are calling for Roger Goodell’s head amid the fall out over the release of the Ray Rice tape, including high profile pundits like Keith Olbermann.

But when it comes to Goodell’s ultimate fate, it doesn’t matter what Keith Olbermann or the many Goodell-bashers on Twitter think, it only matters what NFL owners think.

If Robert Kraft’s take on Goodell is any indication, the embattled commissioner still has the full backing of the people who put him in his job (via cbssports.com):

"“The way he has handled this situation himself, coming out with the mea culpa in his statement a couple weeks ago, or ten days ago, and setting a very clear policy of how we conduct ourselves in the NFL, I thought was excellent,” Kraft said on CBS This Morning. “Anyone who is second guessing that doesn’t know him.”"

When asked to comment on the outrage over the release of the full Rice tape, and questions over whether the NFL did or did not have access to the tape when making their ruling on Rice, Kraft kept up the company line:

"“OK, I don’t want to get in the role of law enforcement or things I don’t understand. It’s just — the good news is, people did the right thing. When you see that visually, it’s just such a turnoff, and I hope a great lesson to people everywhere that this isn’t going to be tolerated.”"

Rice has been cut by the Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL, but getting rid of Rice won’t magically clear up all the questions about how the NFL handled the entire situation from the beginning.

And all the screaming in the world by pundits and Twitter folks won’t get Roger Goodell fired so long as men like Bob Kraft continue to have his back.
