The NFL suspended Ray Rice two games for beating his wife in an elevator but only recently decided that new evidence warranted a more severe suspension.

Suspending Ray Rice indefinitely has caused backlash for Goodell not because of the nature of the suspension but because of the fact that it took forever to get it right. This has prompted calls, most loudly from Keith Olbermann, for Goodell to step down as commissioner of the NFL.

Goodell spoke with CBS News in a lengthy interview and very unsurprisingly didn’t think he needs to step down for his handling of the Ray Rice situation.

There has been intense backlash against Goodell and the NFL over how they initially botched the Ray Rice punishment in the most horrible of ways. Righting his wrong has not gotten Goodell out of the crosshairs of those who want to see him removed as commissioner as it has only intensified the heat.

He’s not going to be stepping down, that’s just not happening, but Goodell will need to answer for all of this and do so in more than just a casual CBS sitdown interview.
