The Tampa Bay Buccaneers weren’t able to get the Lovie Smith era off to the start they wanted and part of that had to do with an injury to Doug Martin early on in the team’s first game. Martin was taken out of the game with a lower leg injury after just nine carries and wasn’t returned to action.

Lovie Smith spoke about the injury to Martin this week but noted it was just minor and nothing the Bucs were getting too concerned about. However, nothing definitive is yet known about Martin’s leg and his status for Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams remains up in the air.
No injury updates today on Mankins or Martin, neither of which were in open locker room. DE Da'Quan Bowers optimistic about his progress.

Martin is supposed to be the Bucs bell cow running back, which means not having him healthy is going to be a problem. But the main reason Martin’s health is an issue is due to the fact that he’s starting to become labeled as injury-prone, which is the last thing the Buccaneers need right now.
