With a 25-game suspension levied at him for a positive drug test, Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis let down his teammates.

More from Baltimore Orioles

However, unfortunately, there’s someone that Davis let down even more so than his Orioles brethren.  Davis was scheduled to meet with a Make-A-Wish child prior to Friday’s game, but because of his suspension he was not at Camden Yards on game day.

Davis was 5-year-old Kaden Abshire’s favorite player. The youngster recently told the Virginian Pilot, “I just want to meet Crush Davis, and that’s it.”

The Virginian-Pilot has more on Abshire:

"Kaden was born with Holt-Oram syndrome, a little-known disorder characterized by skeletal abnormalities of the hands and arms and sometimes heart problems. Hepner said he may need a heart-and-lung transplant in the future. The Make-A-Wish Foundation – a nonprofit that organizes memorable experiences for children with life-threatening medical conditions – presented Kaden with six tickets earlier this week for today’s game. The organization also arranged for Kaden to meet Davis.Kaden’s mother, Rachel Abshire, was killed last year by a friend of his father in a murder-for-hire."

While a terribly sad story that was only made worse by Davis’ suspension, Abshire ultimately met Nelson Cruz instead and was satisfied.

"“He took it fine,” said Princess Hepner, Kaden’s grandmother. She said he got to meet Left Fielder Nelson Cruz instead and will be taking home a bat signed by Cruz and a ball signed by Davis."

Hopefully Davis does the right thing in this spot and finds a way to connect with Abshire as soon as possible.
