The Baltimore Orioles will be without slugger Chris Davis for the remainder of the regular season due to a suspension for the use of Adderall. His suspension totals 25 games and will spill over in the postseason.

Situations like this one always put a player’s teammates in a tough spot. On the one hand, they want to show support for their guy and let him know that he is still part of the team. On the other hand, teammates have to feel frustrated and possibly angry at the player for being selfish, especially when the timing comes so close to the playoffs.

Orioles’ outfielder Nick Markakis walked that line in his comments about Davis’s suspension (from the Baltimore Sun):

"“It’s just a bad situation overall, and I think he knows that,” outfielder Nick Markakis said. “We all know that, and it’s something we have to deal with.”“We have rules to abide by. Those are things we have to do as a baseball player,” Markakis said. “They don’t set them for just any rhyme or reason. It is to keep the integrity of the game and protect our players, too.”"

In short, Davis deserved to be suspended and his teammates probably aren’t too happy about it. This attitude reflects the transition that has happened in baseball where the players are willing to stand at the forefront and speak out against PEDs and other substances.
