Golden State Warriors big man Marreese Speights has pleaded not guilty Tuesday in regards to a charge of driving under the influence the morning of Aug. 5 in Tampa, Florida, according to Diamond Leung of the San Jose Mercury News.
"A written not guilty plea was entered by an attorney at Speights’ arraignment, Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office spokesman Mark Cox said Wednesday. Speights’ attorney did not immediately return a message seeking comment.Speights was arrested following a traffic stop the morning after his 27th birthday and according to Tampa police submitted to tests showing breath alcohol levels of .103 and .106 percent, above the .08 unlawful level."
Speights, a former Florida Gator standout, has another court date scheduled in October. The Associated Press has more on the original arrest.
"According to a police report, an officer pulled over Speights’ black Bentley shortly after 3 a.m. because he failed to yield the right of way while pulling out of a driveway. The officer reported that Speights seemed impaired and agreed to a field sobriety test."
The 27-year-old Speights, a six-year NBA veteran, is in the second year of a three-year, $11 million contract with the Warriors. He appeared in 79 games for Golden State last season and averaged 6.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game last season.
