San Diego Chargers vs. Buffalo Bills

The San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills meet Sunday as two of the bigger surprises in the NFL. The Chargers bounced back from a Week 1 loss to stun the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks last week behind three touchdown connections between quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates. The Bills improved to 2-0 with great special teams play, including five Dan Carpenter field goals and a 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by C.J. Spiller.

Keys to Victory

Buffalo will have to step up its pass defense, as defending Rivers is a significant step up in weight class from Ryan Tannehill. But the Chargers have some offensive problems of their own, taking on a Buffalo run defense that held Miami to just 80 yards without top running back Ryan Mathews, out with an MCL injury. The Bills, however, have to get more offensive production that five field goals and one touchdown. E.J. Manuel has been solid, but the Bills simply have to start finishing drives more successfully.

Prediction

The Bills are playing on a bit of an adrenaline rush early in the season, secure in the knowledge that the ownership talk is done and that the franchise will remain in Buffalo. San Diego coming into the contest without Ryan Mathews is a concern, because even without injured linebacker Kiko Alonso and Keith Rivers, Buffalo is doing a decent job of defending the run. Throw in the dreaded West Coast team traveling East for an early game scenario and you have …

Final Score: Buffalo 27, San Diego 24
