Because of an injury to the elbow, Knowshon Moreno of the Miami Dolphins was never able to deliver an encore of his dazzling week 1 performance against the New England Patriots.

More from Miami Dolphins

Fortunately for the Dolphins, Moreno expects a speedy recovery as Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports the running back hopes to return by Week 6 of the season.

From the Miami Herald:

"Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno, out with a dislocated elbow, has told teammates he’s aiming to return immediately after Miami’s bye, Oct. 12 against Green Bay."

Out of the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos offense, Moreno found himself in a situation where he’d be featured in a bigger role, this time complimenting Ryan Tannehill. And what Moreno was able to do against New England — 24 carries, 134 yards, 1 touchdown — was exactly what the Dolphins signed him for this off-season.

But an injury sidelined him and it may have affected the team in Week 2 as they rushed for a total of 80 yards, 76 sans Moreno. No rushing game makes things harder for Tannehill to lead the Dolphins whom are currently ranked 25th in the NFL.

Lamar Miller has shown the talent to be a lead back at times, but coming into the season, Miami pinned their hopes on a two-heading running back tandem to guide them when Tannehill wasn’t putting the ball through the air.

Going up against a struggling Kansas City Chiefs team today, it might not matter how the Dolphins attack if Kansas City continues to play like the 23rd best defense in the league.
