It looks like the Detroit Tigers have a strong hold on a playoff spot. They are 1.5 games clear of the Royals in the division after winning a key series in Kansas City this past weekend. If they somehow gave way in the division, they would still be in position to the reach the postseason as a Wild Card team in the American League.

Nothing is guaranteed yet for the Tigers, however, which means that the pressure will ramp up if they stumble during the final week of the 2014 regular season. Detroit will play seven games in seven days to wrap things up.

There is good news for the Tigers, however, as they play all of those games at home against opponents with bad records. Starting Monday they host the Chicago White Sox for three games, followed by four home games against the Minnesota Twins.

It would take an epic collapse for the Tigers to miss the playoffs. They appear to hold an advantage as far as their schedule is concerned. As long as they do not take these games for granted, something they will surely be guard for since both teams are division opponents, we should see the Tigers comfortably in the playoffs.

That said, if the Tigers start the week with a couple losses, things could get interesting with the pressure that is coming from the teams behind them.
