Tom Coughlin – New York Giants

It’s hard to believe that a head coach who has 10 years with his current team and who has led that team to two Super Bowl victories would be on a list like this.

Welcome to the modern-day NFL.

New York is not a patient town, particularly where the Giants are concerned. Last year’s abomination of a season fell squarely on the shoulders of two people as far as Giants fans were concerned – Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin.

The Giants simply don’t have the talent to compete with some of the other NFC teams, and for that matter, with most of the teams in the NFC East.  While Washington and Philadelphia have been gravitating towards newer schemes and spread offenses using read-option attacks, Coughlin and the Giants are stuck in the same old rut.

But at least they can still compete with Dallas.

Anything short of a projected 10-win season and contention for at least a Wild Card berth may spell the end of a decade of fine coaching by Coughlin in New York. A 1-2 start isn’t the best way to head there.
