Cleveland Cavaliers remain confident Ray Allen will sign this season
By Josh Hill
The Cleveland Cavaliers got LeBron James back this summer, added Kevin Love and tacked on some veterans to fill out the roster. But there are still names that the Cavaliers would like to sign and Ray Allen is at the top of that list.

Allen still hasn’t signed with anyone this offseason and he’s thinking about his future and what that holds. It may be that Allen is ready to call it a career after 18 NBA seasons, but the Cavaliers don’t want to be hearing that right now. According to Jason Lloyd of the Beacon Journal, the Cavalier remain confident that Ray Allen is going to play in the NBA this upcoming season and that he’s going to do it with them .
"“I don’t think we’d ever give up on (Allen),” said Cleveland GM David Griffin on Monday. “Until he signs, that’s going to be a target for everybody.”"
Allen may end up deciding to just retire this season instead of returning for his 19th season. It’s easy for fans who don’t play the game — and especially for executives who sit in suites and watch — to be under the impression that returning for a 19th season is no big deal.
But even if Allen is used sparingly and stashed away until the postseason, the wear and tear of being in the NBA is hard for even the youngest bodies in the game. Allen has played 18 consecutive seasons since 1996 and while playing for the Cavs seems like a good way to get back to the NBA Finals and retire on top, nothing is a sure thing these days.
