The Vikings need to protect Bridgewater and give him time in the pocket so that he can get his feet under him and succeed. That is a bit of a concern given the struggles of left tackle Matt Kalil. In the past two weeks alone has has given up three sacks.
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is standing by his left tackle though.
“For 93 percent of the game, he plays pretty good. But unfortunately, the three or four bad plays he has show up and [fans and media] get on him,” Zimmer said, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “So I’m not that discouraged as everybody else is. We’ll just try to get those four bad plays out of there and keep going.”
It is early in the season and one could reasonably assume that Kalil would get better as the season goes along. There might be a bigger sense of urgency now with a rookie quarterback under center.
