In recent years, college football teams have made the “blackout” a fan favorite. We all remember the “funeral game” between Alabama and Georgia, when the Bulldogs broke out their black uniforms only to get absolutely crushed in front of their home fans. And the University of Louisville made blackouts a thing in the early 2000’s and most recently brought back the concept as well, wearing the black uniforms in the first game under Bobby Petrino this season against Miami.

Now it looks like the University of Kentucky is planning a blackout night of their own this Saturday night when the South Carolina Gamecocks roll into Commonwealth Stadium.

The University sent out this picture imploring fans to wear black to the game, as well as showing the black uniforms that the Wildcats will don this weekend.

This won’t be the first time Kentucky has busted out some special uniforms for a big game either. Two years ago they debuted a black uniforms and white helmet for the last game against Tennessee in which they pulled off the upset. Also, earlier this year the Cats wore brand new grey jerseys for the UT-Martin game, and on top of that they have worn a brand new helmet twice this year that features a chrome UK logo on the helmet and includes a chrome face mask.

There’s no word yet on whether Kentucky will have another new helmet his week or if they will wear the chrome version once again. A white helmet could also appear again either this week or alter in the season.
