LOSER: Dennis Allen, Oakland Raiders

Sunday night saw a random tweet by an Associated Press reported that Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen had been fired. He later deleted the tweet and, as Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk reported, apologized for it.

Premature tweets aside, it makes you wonder if where there is smoke (with a 0-4 record) there is fire and it wouldn’t be the first time Allen was on the hot seat. Heck, I was hearing things at the end of last season.

Allen has struggled with the Raiders since taking the job over and while last year he seemed to end up with a pass because the front office knew the franchise was a mess, you have to imagine that they won’t be that understanding this year.

The Raiders continually underperform against low expectations and have fallen far behind the rest of the AFC West.

At some point, that falls on the head coach. Even if the tweet and report were false, it has to be getting hot and his time, short.

That may go for GM Reggie McKenzie as well.

Special mention goes to Terry Collins of the Associated Press who, in his apologies, mentioned “I have no information about the status about the Raiders coach. I was never covering the story.”

Good job, good effort.
