Manchester City v AS Roma result

Manchester City and AS Roma faced off in their UEFA Champions League group stage fixture on Tuesday afternoon at Etihad Stadium. Manchester City was looking for their first win of the tournament after a loss to Bayern Munich in their opener, while Roma was hoping for a second straight win.

After a hot start from Manchester City, Roma drew even and was able to steal a point on the road while City left some very valuable points on the table.

The scoring got underway nice and early, when Sergio Aguero drew a foul inside of the box to set up a penalty. Roma defender Maicon received a yellow card for the foul, while Aguero went on to covert the penalty to give City an early 1-0 lead.

After some exciting back-and-forth following the opening goal, veteran forward Francesco Totti scored the equalizer for La Maggica.

With the goal, Totti (38 years, 3 days) became the oldest scorer in Champions League history. The previous record was held by Ryan Giggs of Manchester United (37 years, 289 days).

Roma built some momentum off of the Totti goal and was giving Manchester City some trouble, before a late attack nearly put City back in front.

Jesus Navas went on a run down the left side of the pitch, before crossing the ball into the box. Unfortunately, the cross took a little skip and was hit off target. The replay revealed Roma defender Kostas Manolas had committed a hand ball.

We were deadlocked at the half.

Both clubs came out of the break eager to break the draw, with each side putting together quality scoring opportunities. Unfortunately for the City and La Maggica attackers, Joe Hart and Lukasz Skorupski were in top form and the defenses were holding strong.

Manchester City was really pushing the pace and creating opportunities down the final stretch of the match, but they were unable to put the successful finishing touches on their chances.

When the final whistle blew, City dropped points at home with the 1-1 draw giving a point to both sides.
