Chicago Bulls guard Aaron Brooks is an All-Star caliber player so why did he signed for under $1 million this summer?

This summer, the Chicago Bulls tried hard to sign Carmelo Anthony but ended up getting burned by his decision to return to New York. They didn’t come away from free agency empty handed though and actually got a massive bargain on one particular player.

More from Chicago Bulls

Aaron Brooks is an All-Star caliber player who is now chasing veteran contracts at a much younger age than many others. Brooks could very well have signed a bigger contract with another team this year, but there was one thing the Chicago Bulls had that he loved over all other options on the table.

According to Joel Brigham from Basketball Insiders, Brooks is interested more in winning a ring with the Chicago Bulls than he is getting a fat paycheck from them.

"“This is a great team, and I feel like I can contribute to it,” Brooks said. “I think I just got to a point in my career where you want to be winning games and have fun playing basketball and play in the postseason.“I’m chasing a ring,” he admitted openly, explaining why a player so talented would play for under a million bucks."

That’s something all players are doing but not everyone will sacrifice like Brooks did. Like D.J. Augustin did last year, it’s likely that Brooks uses his stint with the Chicago Bulls to get a better deal next summer, but his commitment to winning is displayed in his financial sacrifice.
