Tennessee football is taking things to a new level (off the field, at least). We’ve seen blackouts, whiteouts, and all manner of color-outs in the stands for various sports, but Tennessee’s “checkerboard-out” just might take the cake.

Penn State’s “whiteouts” are pretty awesome. Some teams have tried blackouts, where all fans wear black, and it met with mixed reviews. In outdoor day games, it was pretty intimidating and effective. In night games or indoors, it tends to look like the stadium is empty.

Tennessee might have pulled off the coup d’etat with their impressive pattern during their monster SEC matchup against the Florida Gators.

In what must have taken a serious amount of planning and logistics, Volunteers fans made an orange and white checkerboard in the stands, matching the ones that the Vols have in each of the end zones at Neyland Stadium.

Several fans have tweeted out pictures of the stadium(including @love2laugh, who posted the picture up top on Twitter), and ESPN’s College Gameday even got in on the action with this shot of the stadium:

This was a completely fan-driven effort, which is incredibly impressive for Tennessee fans. The university didn’t provide the shirts. These are just a bunch of rabid fans who made the extra effort to go above and beyond for their team. The end result is one of the more impressive sites you’ll see in college football. Kudos to Tennessee fans. You guys really nailed this one. A+.
